The new season is tentatively set to throw off in May.

As Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) men’s league teams shift focus to the new season tentatively set for May throw off, newbies Spartans are keen to make their second year in the top-flight count.

The Anderson Kimeu-captained side are looking to make it to the top ten in the 2023 season, with the skipper saying the experience they have gained in their debut season will help them come back a better more competitive team.

“We have had a tough season given that we are a self-sponsored side. I am, however, grateful to the squad as we kept the faith and got to honour all 18 matches despite the financial struggles.

Next season the focus is on hitting the top ten, which was our target for this season but that was not possible due to various challenges. It was difficult to get the team together for training due to different commitments but we are looking to address such issues before the next season,” Kimeu offered.

Meanwhile, the league is looking to hold the pre-season Super Cup in the first two weekends of May paving way for the 2023 league.

“We have given a tentative date of May for the league to begin as that will give us at least seven months to conclude action this year. With the Africa Games having been moved to next year, we anticipate little interruptions,” George Asimeto offered.

Calls for a lower tier league especially for the men’s league that had 19 teams this season continue but the federation is yet to commit.
